Before this match, he had the same number of titles as Rafael Nadal (22), but he has beaten him and now has 23. He is now the player with the most singles Grand Slam titles in tennis history and is on top among the big three of tennis: Rafael Nadal (22) and Roger Federer (20).
Djokovic was trailing Casper Ruud at the beginning of the match, as Ruud was leading the first set 3 games to zero when Djokovic showed incredible mental strength and played a sensational brand of tennis. Ruud started the match with his serve and also managed to break Djokovic in a grueling second set between these players.
After starting the match on a good note, Ruud was nowhere near Djokovic’s game in the whole final. The first set went into a tie-break due to Ruud’s early lead and Djokovic’s fantastic comeback. Djokovic toyed with Ruud in the tie-breaker and clinched the set 7-6 (7-1).
The second set was again Novak’s dominance, where he ran Ruud to every corner of the court and showed everyone what a player he is. He won the second set 6-3 and took a great lead in the match. At this stage, a comeback was very difficult for Ruud as Djokovic looked determined to achieve his dream.
Casper Ruud did fight with all his strength in the third set, but it was just not meant to be against a mentally and physically strong Novak Djokovic, as he also took the third set with a score of 7-5 and shattered Rudd’s dream of winning his first Grand Slam.
It was Casper Ruud’s second consecutive French Open final loss, but he is an incredible player and will come back again to fight with all his might in Paris next year.
