Neymar sent off for slapping opponent as five players see red card

PSG star Neymar was sent off after a physical face-off with Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez after the latter allegedly dug a racial comment.

PSG star Neymar confessed that he regrets not punching Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez in the face post claims of Marseille centre back racially commenting on the Brazilian forward.  Five red cards were passed out in the stoppage time during the clash between Marseille and Paris St-Germain in Ligue 1. The match later witnessed five players being sent off. The sides had a scandalous contention later leading to a rise of emotions that erupted a rough conflict. Furthermore, everything went to a top with the clock ticking after Dario Benedetto’s critical foul on Leandro Paredes.

A skirmish followed, including all the players, with referee Jerome Brisard distributing four red cards after kicks and punches were tossed. VAR authorities prompted that the ref looks again on the screen subsequent to seeing a punch from Neymar in the rear of the hand of Marseille centre back Alvaro. The match saw Neymar sent off as well, taking the tally to five sending-offs. As he left the pitch, the 28-year-old told the fourth ref that the Spaniard had racially manhandled him and after the match, he took to Twitter to clear up the circumstance.

He tweeted: “The main regret I have is for not punching the face of this a******.”

Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas was found casual when discussing the occurrence and bouncing to Alvaro’s guard.

“I don’t know. I hope not, there is no place for racism in football,” Villas-Boas said in an interview with Telefoot.

“It’s a serious fault if it happened but I don’t think so. Before that, we had a situation with a spit from Di Maria.

“These are things to avoid in the world of football.

“I hope it won’t be a black spot in this historic performance.

“It’s a great victory. We improved little by little with a little more control.

“We were disciplined defensively. It should finish 2-0, but I don’t know why the referee didn’t give the second goal.

“Di Maria and Neymar were incredible. I congratulate them because it’s hard after Covid-19 to present yourself like this.

“They did well and fought for 90 minutes. It was the moment for us. We were confident.”
