Most Hundreds in an ODI Innings

ODI cricket over the years has evolved a lot. Gone are the times when the scores of more than 250 were considered as winning totals. Today, the team play with an aggressive mindset and try to score as many runs in the power play overs. Teams prefer aggressive batsmen who play with healthy strike rates.

Over the last decade, we have seen some massive totals being put on the board in one-day internationals. Several batsmen scored heavily to put together formidable totals. On a few occasions, we have two or three batsmen scoring centuries in a single ODI innings.

Sportzcraazy takes a look at teams scoring most hundreds in a single ODI innings:

5. West Indies: 2 Hundred

The fourth ODI between India and West Indies in 1983 saw two West Indies players notching centuries in an innings. Batting first, West Indies posted a massive 333-run total, courtesy a couple of brilliant knocks from Sir Viv Richards and Sir Gordon Greenidge. The latter scored 115 runs off just 134 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes. On the other hand, Viv Richards too played a sensational knock of 149 runs off 99 balls. India, in reply, could only manage to score 229 runs, thereby handing West Indies a 104-run victory.

4. Pakistan: 2 Hundred

During India’s tour of Pakistan in 1982, Pakistan held the record of hitting 2 centuries in a single innings in the third ODI of the series. Batting first, Pakistan notched 252 runs in the innings. The openers fell early, however, middle-order batsmen comprising of Zaheer Abbas and Javed Miandad led the recovery and put together a match-winning partnership.

Abbas scored 105 runs off 82 balls, while Javed Miandad too made significant contribution with 119 runs off just 77 balls. India, in reply, could score 193 runs and thus lost the game by 18 runs.

3. Pakistan: 2 Hundred

At number three is once again Pakistan. Against India in the second ODI of the same series, Pakistan notched a formidable 263-run total in the first innings. Opener Mohsin Khan gave a great start to the side, while Zaheer Abbas supported him brilliantly. Khan compiled 117 runs off 118 balls, while Abbas amassed 118 runs off just 76 balls as Pakistan notched a massive 263-run total in the first innings. India showed character in the second innings but fell short of 37 runs in the end.

2. South Africa: 3 Hundred

South Africa has posted a lot of massive totals in one-day cricket. In the fifth ODI of the five-match ODI series against India in 2015, South Africa posted a mammoth 438-run total in the first innings. Quinton de Kock gave a rollicking start, scoring 109 runs, while Faf du Plessis too showed grit and determination.

Du Plessis too scored a century, amassing 133 runs off 61 balls. Skipper AB de Villiers too joined the party later and smacked 119 runs off just 61 balls. As many as three batsmen scored centuries as South Africa posted a huge score against India. India had no answers and was eventually folded for 224 runs.

1. South Africa: 3 Hundred

The second ODI between South Africa and West Indies in 2015 saw the proteas scoring more than 400 runs in a single innings. South Africa batted first and played with complete authority right from the start of the innings. Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw put together a brilliant opening partnership of 247 runs.

Amla notched 153 runs off 142 balls, while Rossouw scored 128 runs off 115 balls. However, the entertainment didn’t stop there. AB de Villiers arrived and took the world by storm. He smacked the bowlers to all parts and played arguably the best knock of his ODI career. He scored 149 runs off just 44 balls, a knock which was peppered with 9 fours and 16 sixes.
