AS Monaco faces Paris Saint-Germain tonight in the Ligue 1 match. The second of this week’s two clashes between these teams takes place in the principality but will we have another epic on our hands?

Monaco

Robert Moreno’s Monaco put in an incredibly gutsy performance on Sunday night as they gave the champions one of their hardest tests this season (3-3). The principality side managed to put three past PSG, the first time the Parisians have conceded three this season, and really had enough chances towards the end to win it. It was an incredibly dramatic game and neutrals will be hoping for another classic here.

The teams will meet again for the second time in a week due to this match being postponed earlier in the campaign; but Monaco likely won’t be complaining as they’ll be hoping to use their new-found momentum in this match. Moreno has only taken charge of two games so far but it has been a solid start with the 3-3 draw following a 2-1 win in the cup over Ligue 1’s second-best defence, Reims.

Moreno has managed to keep his team ticking over since his appointment as they were already in fantastic form before the arrival of the Spaniard. They had won nine of the 14 final matches under previous coach Leonardo Jardim with them scoring 26 times and conceding 16 goals in this period. They really haven’t improved defensively under Moreno yet but he has managed to keep that goal-hungry spirit in the side.

PSG

As much as PSG were slightly taken aback in the 3-3 draw on Sunday, they are a top-class outfit and should not be underestimated as they seek revenge here. Prior to the draw, they had won each of their last eight matches with a whopping 34 goals scored and just four conceded in the process. This illustrates just how well Monaco performed in the previous match.

Away from home, they are still an extremely dominant force with 11 wins in their last 13 games on the road. Given the Parisians have only lost once in the principality since 2009, they still have many reasons to be confident ahead of this match.

Thomas Tuchel’s team have been extremely mentally strong this season, with shock defeats to Rennes, Reims and Dijon not disheartening the squad. They are still yet to drop points in consecutive games this season, with the last such occurrence happening in April; even though Monaco will be right up for this match, we would be ignorant to doubt the champions.

The clash on Sunday was in Paris but with this match being in Monaco, the home side may fancy their chances. They have won eight of their last nine matches at the Stade Louis II.

But, despite that Monaco record, just one of these victories came against a team in the top five at the time of playing (Lille, 5-1). The one defeat in this time also came against a team in the top five (Lille, 0-3) so they haven’t really proved themselves at home against the top sides just yet. In fact, PSG have won their last four trips to Monaco and we’re backing them to do so again.

We expect Monaco to get on the scoresheet, as they have done so in 10 of their last 11 home matches. But we ultimately see this one finishing 3-1 to the visitors. They rarely struggle in back-to-back matches and even though Monaco have a new lease of life, we see the champions returning home with all three points.

MON VS PSG: Best players

Monaco

One thing that Monaco has in spades is pace, especially when they have Keita Balde up front. The flying Senegal man can get from Point A to Point B in a hurry, and he’s coming off a game with an assist, against PSG, so that’ll make him a big threat here. That can also be said of Wissam Ben Yedder. They did go behind early, but he scored and assisted to give them a lead that didn’t last throughout but certainly let PSG know they were in a match.

PSG

One man that didn’t let PSG down, and there would have been some that did, on Sunday was Neymar. The controversial Brazilian scored twice, once from the spot, to help them lead twice. Unfortunately, it did not hold in the end. In midfield, they will rely upon Italian international Marco Verratti. He assisted on the opening goal inside three minutes. They have not gotten a ton of production out of him this season, though, so they will hope that is the turn and a sign of things to come.
