Misbah Ul Haq irked with questions on Pakistan’s poor form, says he doesn’t have a magic wand to change things overnight

Following several debacles in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the Pakistan team management revamped itself. The head coach, Mickey Arthur, was sacked, the chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq stepped down and finally, the captain Sarfraz Ahmed was also removed from his post. Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq was chosen as the head coach-cum-chief selector soon later.

The management also tried split captaincy after Ahmed’s sacking. But nothing much changed for them. Pakistan lost a T20I series against a depleted Sri Lanka side at home and then, were beaten by Australia in the T20Is and Tests away from home. The team, ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka, is under the scanner, but new coach Misbah said that he does not have a magic wand to change the team’s fortunes overnight.

Misbah, who put down his papers as a cricketer in 2017, was speaking at a media conference in Lahore where he announced Pakistan’s 16-man squad for the upcoming two-Test series at home. He was seen visibly irked with reporters’ questions over the team’s recent failures, especially the one in which they were whitewashed by Australia in both the series they played Down Under last month.

“What do you want,” the 45-year-old said when a reporter asked if he was looking to step down as per the demand of some of the ex-players. “You have to understand I don’t have a magic wand to make everything right just like that. The players need a process to settle down and perform,” he added.

He said he is an honest man trying his best to revive Pakistan cricket but things will take time.

“I don’t have any desire to sit and watch Pakistan cricket go to pieces. Yes, no one likes that and thinks maybe someone else should be doing this job instead of me. But I am an honest man and I am doing my best and it will take some time to rebuild this Test team.” he said.
