Men's number 1 Ranked Tennis player Carlos Alcaraz sustains leg injury and opts out of Australian Open 2023

19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is all set to miss the upcoming Australian Open starting from January 16. The World number 1 opted out from participating in the tournament after sustaining a Leg injury which could keep him out of action for several months. He announced the news on Friday via Twitter.

You can draw the amount of disappointment Alcaraz has by reading this tweet of his. An Unnatural movement or an awkward landing might be the reason behind his untimely Injury. His right leg has been injured and it will keep him out of the first grand slam of 2023. It will be even more dreadful for him because he stated the fact that it was proving to be one of his best pre-seasons ever.

“I’d worked so hard to get to my best level for Australia but unfortunately I won’t be able to play the Care A2+ Kooyong or the Australian Open. It’s tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024”. – he added further more via Tweet. 

The Australian Open will start from January 16 but in 2 days from 9th Jan, the qualifiers will begin. However, the world number 1 will not be a part of the tournament but some of the other top players will benefit from it. 22-time Grand slam winner Rafael Nadal will receive promotion to the top seed while Serbia’s Novak Djokovic will receive a boost too as he will now be a part of the top 4 seeding.

It also means that Djokovic will not be facing Nadal till the semi-finals at least. The Serbian is making a return to the AO after getting deported from the country last year due to his reluctance from getting vaccinated.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz was on the news last September after winning the US Open and becoming the youngest player ever to reach the summit of ATP Rankings history. The 19-year-old also overtook the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer to finish the season at the top of the rankings.
Although his ties with Injuries could prove problematic in the future if he doesn’t take steps to prevent. His first health setback came last season during the Paris Masters after sustaining an abdominal muscle tear.
