We frequently overlook to give thanks to the hard workers who contribute to team development and player-centered tactics, which enable a team to succeed in any competition.
Let’s discuss about the man who helped Indian men’s hockey win a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo by turning around the tide.
I’m not referring to our captain, Manpreet Singh, but rather to Graham Reid, who led his men out of the stadium.
The person who influenced the way that modern Indian hockey players think deserves enormous praise. He instilled that belief in the current crop of players since he was a champion player himself.
.His wife Julia Reid assisted Men in Blue in teaching Indian players English so that they could effectively converse in front of the camera and observe the changes taking place all around us.
Let me highlight a few significant facts concerning Coach Graham Reid in detail:
Personal life: Graham Reid, a defender and midfielder for the Australian national team, was born on April 9th, 1964, in Redcliffe, Queensland. Scott and Emma are the couple’s two offspring; they are married to Julia Reid.
Achievements: He was a member of the Australian team that won a silver medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona, Spain. Additionally, from 1993 to 1994, he played club hockey with the top Dutch team Amsterdam. He later returned in 1995 to compete in the Europa Cup.
He scored 36 goals in 130 international games for the Kangaroos as a player. Let me list some of his additional accomplishments in a table.
Serial Number | Trophy Name | Winning Year |
1 | Olympic Games | 1988, 1992 |
2 | World Cup | 1990 |
3 | Champions Trophies | 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 |
He was also a founding member of the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) hockey team in Perth, Western Australia, in 1984. Despite having options to move elsewhere in the nation, he stayed in Perth.
He worked as the assistant coach of the Dutch National team prior to being the national coach of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.
Along with leading the Men in Blue team to an Olympic Bronze medal after a 40-year absence, he also led the team to fourth place in the recently finished 2021 Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup, which was hosted in Bhubneshwar.
The 15th edition of the world cup, which will begin in 10 day’s time will take place in Orissa at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela and the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubneswar with Harmanpreet Singh as the captain, would place enormous demands on him.
