After a hamstring injury, Aymeric Laporte, Manchester City defender has been ruled out for three to four weeks. According to the Manchester City gaffer, Pep Guardiola, Aymeric Laporte should be out for “three weeks to a month” with a hamstring injury.

Laporte will now miss the Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.

He sustained the injury in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League. The France international is doubtful to feature in the Manchester derby on March 8 and is also a doubt for the return leg against Madrid at the Etihad on March 17.

When asked on an update of Laporte’s fitness, Guardiola said:

Hamstring injury, [the] prognosis is normally three weeks to one month, more or less.

“We tried to avoid it but unfortunately it has happened. After four or five months, when you go directly at demanding games, sometimes it can happen.”

Guardiola has said that Leroy Sane will make his return from injury in a U23 game against Arsenal which is set to happen on this Friday night.

After suffering from anterior cruciate ligament damage, Sane has not played for City since the Community Shield win over Liverpool at the start of the season and Guardiola says he will not rush the German back to the first-team action.

He said,

I don’t want to put targets,”

“We want to see the game, speak with him, and see how he felt against Arsenal. But it’s good.”

Manchester City are currently in the second position with 22 points behind the runaway leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table. And, Pep Guardiola believes that if he’d had Laporte and Sane available throughout the campaign it could have been a much closer title race this season compared to that like last season.

Cityzens manager, Pep Guardiola opined:

A manager needs the players,”

“All the players are fantastic but the more alternatives you have, [you have] the rotation to be fresh.”

“To be in all of them (competitions) you need a top talented squad and the manager depends absolutely, 100 per cent on the quality of our players.”

Pep Guardiola is also looking forward to facing relegation battling Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium and said that reaching the Carabao Cup final is a fantastic achievement for the injury-ridden side who won the domestic treble last season.

Pep Guardiola added that:

Being there again is a great achievement for us but of course we have to try to win it,”.
