Jose Mourinho raises the question over VAR again

The Portugues manager and the “Special One”, Jose Mourinho, claimed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) missed a red card for Reds’ defender Andy Robertson because they were “having a cup of tea”.

The new Tottenham Hotspurs gaffer was speaking after his side had narrowly lost 1-0 to Liverpool in north London. However, he fully praised the efforts of his side and believed that Jurgen Klopp’s men should have been reduced to 10 men following the tackle.

The Scottish defender, Andy Robertson overran the ball and dived in on the 20-year-old Tanganga. The tackle was similar to the tackle by Aubameyang on Max Meyer which reduced Arsenal to 10 men as the player was shown a red card for the reckless tackle.

After  the game, Jose Mourinho said;

“They could have conceded a goal and got a red card for Robertson’s challenge,”

Video Assistant Referee has had a huge impact on the proceedings of the games this season and has been quite controversial too. Even in the match against Crystal Palace vs Arsenal, few banners were raised against VAR. And against Tottenham, Liverpool escaped the red card according to the Portuguese tactician

Mourinho also claimed that Liverpool was “lucky” to have left to take all three points home after Firmino’s goal came from a throw-in that should’ve been awarded to the Tottenham Hotspurs.

“Yesterday we spent half an hour defending throw-ins and we lost the game on the throw-in,”

“I think the refs did a very good job, but the assistant on the opposite side didn’t see that Mane touched the ball [in the build-up to the goal].

Taking about the Premier League title win for Liverpool, who are without the title for three decades, Mourinho said,

“I told you they would win the league when they beat Manchester City three or four months ago,”

The Lillywhites manager was seen praising the 20-year-old defender and said everyone should be proud of his performance. Tanganga made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Saturday late kick-off fixture.

I think everybody at the club has to be proud of him,”

“That’s what Tottenham does and has to do when we feel it’s the right player and the right occasion. It was the perfect occasion for him.
