Jurgen Klopp retains Premier League Manager of the Month award

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been named the Premier League Manager of the Month for December 2019.

The German gaffer wins the award for the fourth time this season after a historic end to the year with the Reds.

The table-toppers won all five of the Premier League matches, beating the likes of Everton, AFC Bournemouth, Watford, Leicester City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers to go 13 points clear.

It is the seventh time Klopp has been named Manager of the Month and the fourth time he has won it this season. The only month in which he has not won it in this campaign was October when Chelsea’s Frank Lampard picked up the award.

In the process they scored 15 goals and conceded just twice, keeping four clean sheets.

The Reds also lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in the month of December to become the world club champions for the first time.

“It’s really good, and at this moment the only thought I have, I want to win it in January,” Klopp said.

“Before a game, I always have this kind of feeling where I’m massively concerned about how well things go. So, that keeps us really concentrated and the boys are like this as well.

“We are ready to fight through the season, and that’s what we have to do.”

Liverpool gaffer Klopp has now equaled Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s 2017/18 record for the most Barclays Manager of the Month awards in a single season.

The 52-year-old is also level with Guardiola on seven Barclays awards overall. Only five men have won more.

Klopp was decided as the winner after votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

He beat fellow nominees Watford’s Nigel Pearson and Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min’s incredible solo strike for Tottenham Hotspur against Burnley has been voted the Premier League Goal of the Month for December.

The South Korean picked the ball up on the edge of his own box, ran away from two players and skipped past two challenges before slotting beyond Nick Pope.

Son dribbled 71.4 meters in only 11 seconds with a goal he described as “unbelievable”.

Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, on the other hand, won the Premier League Player of the Month award for December 2019.

The Liverpool defender won his first Premier League monthly award after producing a goal, three assists and three clean sheets in a flawless end to the year.
