Jose Mourinho Doesn’t Think Marcus Rashford Is An Ideal Centre Forward

Jose Mourinho doesn’t think that Marcus Rashford has got what it takes to be an ideal centre forward. Mourinho believes Rashford has got a lot of potential, but he reckons his potential can be converted into performance only if he is used in the right position.

Mourinho has seen Rashford from close quarters. He was in charge of Manchester United for a couple of seasons and he gave Rashford a lot of playing opportunities during his time at Old Trafford. He even used Rashford as no. 9 in some of the games, but the Portuguese has always maintained that he doesn’t think no. 9 is Rashford’s best position.

Mourinho was in the Sky Sports studio as a pundit to analyze the game between Manchester United and Liverpool. When he was asked since Rashford is only 21 years of age at the moment, if there is a possibility for him to improve as a centre forward going ahead, Mourinho insisted that Rashford might only be 21-year old, but it’s not that he hasn’t played enough Football.

According to Mourinho, Rashford has been playing first team Football since 18 years of age and he has as many Premier League games to his name as some of the players might not have at even 24 or 25 years of age. The thing is Rashford doesn’t have the qualities of a centre forward. He is a fantastic player, but when he plays on the wings, not as a target man.

“I always thought his best position is when he comes from the left to the centre, not when he’s a clear number nine.” Mourinho said in the Sky Sports studio.

Rashford scored a goal for United last night at Old Trafford which took the Red Devils ahead in the game against their arch rivals Liverpool. The scores were, however, leveled later as Adam Lallana found the net for the visitors a few minutes before the final whistle.
