Irfan Pathan wants Indian bowlers to raise intensity before the 2023 ICC Cricket World cup

Former Indian All-rounder and the inaugural ICC T20 World cup winner with India, Irfan Pathan has come forward to suggest a thing or two about the Indian bowling attack. He has put forth his insights and suggestions about their performances in the last couple of ICC events.

As we all know, India’s bowling line-up has seen massive lows in the recent past. Their weakness has been exposed especially in ICC tournaments and the last 2 T20 World cups are a perfect example of it. On that note, Irfan Pathan has asked the bowling line-up to raise intensity when the ICC Cricket World cup in November starts.

During the 2021 T20 World cup, India suffered a 10-wicket loss against Pakistan in the very first match and also failed to enter the later stages. Next year in Australia, the Blues met the same fate once again in the Semi-final against eventual champions England.

With the World cup taking place in the Indian soil later this year, Irfan pathan wants India to have 2 Premium pacers having good variation to lessen the dependency on the pitches. And the way the 2-time World champions have started 2023, another WC triumph at home is likely to happen.

After whitewashing Sri-Lanka by 3-0, the Blues clinched another ODI series against New Zealand and a win today will be the 2nd time they whitewash an opponent. India’s Batting, bowling and fielding has been spot on and if they carry the same momentum throughout the year, a WC triumph is not far away.

While speaking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan spoke upon Mohammad Shami’s improved performance and what India needs to further improve going forward.

“India need to focus on bowling. It is very important to plan what combination we should be playing and which bowlers should get a chance, depending on how they make the most of the pitches. The biggest problem here, is that the pitches are flat and our bowling is not up to the mark and that’s what we have seen in the last two T20 World Cups against Pakistan as well as against England in the semi-finals. Our bowling definitely lacked heat.”

“So, this is what I personally want to see going forward, that we have two bowlers who do not require the special pitches that we expect. They have their respective skills either by pace or the variation and I think that the team management and the selectors and everyone, even the captain Rohit Sharma, are going in the right direction.
