IPL 2021: BCCI keeps Hyderabad as back up option for Mumbai as the latter has been affected badly with COVID-19

India is among the top 5 countries in the world that have been badly impacted with COVID-19 and the state of Maharashtra being one of the most affected one when it comes to civilians getting tested positive for novel coronavirus.

Recently former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who lives in Mumbai is hospitalized after tested positive for COVID-19 as precautionary measures. Mumbai which is the capital of Maharashtra is among the most effected cities with COVID-19.

As per the latest reports, if cases keep on growing like this in the state of Maharashtra then Hyderabad can be used as a backup venue option.

However the world richest cricket board have received assurance from state government that the tournament will not be impacted at all amid what is happening in the outside world.

However with the way cases are increasing in Maharashtra they might go for lockdown in order to curb second wave of coronavirus.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra  Uddhav Thackrey will take a call on this on Friday.

“Today, I am giving an indication for a complete lockdown, but not announcing it formally. If things do not improve visibly in a couple of days and if no other solution is found, we will have to announce another lockdown like it is being done globally,” he said

However the state government has assured BCCI that it won’t affect IPL bubble  as teams have reached Mumbai and they are staying at exclusive accommodations and the players are either in a bubble or are serving the mandatory quarantine period.

As for COVID-19, India recorded 89,129 new cases on April 2 and is currently the fifth worst-hit country in the world. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the three of the top worst-hit states in India

As per the latest reports, India will see huge rise in COVID-19 cases in the month of April and May 2021.
