India’s junior and youth boxers dominated the ring at the Golden Girl Championship in Boras, Sweden. India’s junior and young boxers won a total of 14 medals and the title of ‘Best Boxer’, winning six golds at the Golden Girls Championship played in Boras, Sweden.
The junior women’s team won five gold, three silver, and one bronze medals while the youth team won one gold and four bronze medals in the competition concluded on Sunday.
Prachi Dhankhar, who hails from the Jhajjar district of Haryana, who participated in the junior category, won the title of ‘Best Boxer’. Prachi had clinched gold in the 50 kg weight category bout at the Golden Girl Championship played in Boras, Sweden. Prachi punched gold at the event as she knocked out Ireland’s boxer 5-0 in the final. Apart from Prachi, Ethoibi Chanu Wangjam who participated in the 54kg, Lashu Yadav in the 66kg and Mahi Raghav who fought in the 80kg bouts also won gold medals for the country.
In the Youth category, Muskan, who fought in the 54 kg weight category, won the gold medal in the youth category. Other than Muskan, young pugilists Sanya Negi, who participated in the 57 kg, Deepika, who was representing India in 64 kg, Muskaan who was locking horns with opponents in the 69 kg and Sakshi Zahadel who was vying for a medal in the 75 kg weight category could not make it into the finals and had to settle for bronze.
In the junior category, Janhvi who was fighting in the light flyweight category i.e 46 kg, Rudy Lalmingmuni who was playing in the Welterweight division in the 66 kg weight category and Tanishka Patil who was leading the Indian charge in the Light heavyweight category, in 80 Kg, in the junior division won silver. Dia Negi who was participating in the Lightweight category had to settle for the bronze medal.
The Indian contingent was also acknowledged as the best team at the Golden Girls championship in Boras, Sweden.
