IND Vs SL : How long will India stick to KL Rahul and push in-form players away?

Ind vs sl 3rd odi

It seems as if even a double century cannot get you a spot in the Indian team because the parameter which is being fixed is not in the basis of performances. KL Rahul who has been a class act all his life has not been able to convert or express fully as he should have.

His potential was such that he was compared to the likes of Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli as one of best technicians with the Bat, however, the 30-year-old has failed to replicate all that on the pitch. For today’s ODI against Sri-Lanka, Captain Rohit Sharma made it extremely clear that Ishan Kishan will not be a part of the team for India despite smacking the fastest double hundred in ODI cricket against Bangladesh last year.

He has been given a lot of opportunities but he is yet to fully discover himself in International cricket. Except for a few moments and glimpses, KL Rahul has failed to hit a good level of consistency but the Indian team on the other hand have been too reliant on Rahul.

In 48 ODIs, Rahul has scored 1760 runs and since the start 2020, he has scored the third most runs for India and he is one spot above Virat Kohli himself. He has played as an opener as well as at 4th and 5th. So, there’s no doubt about his flexibility as a batter but his inconsistent form has been something he has not been able to shrug off.

Rohit Sharma further confirmed that KL Rahul will don the Wicket-keeping gloves and feature in the middle-order in place of a left-handed Ishan Kishan who could have capitalized on his form. Was it a fair move to pick him in place of Ishan Kishan?
