I’ll do everything to get a place in England’s T20 side: Joe Root

Joe Root

England’s red-ball captain, Joe Root is no longer a part of England’s T20 set-up. He played his last T20 international against Pakistan in 2019. England, today, boasts of some extremely talented limited-overs batsmen which make it very difficult for Root to make a comeback in the shortest format of the game. However, a persistent Joe Root isn’t willing to give up on his T20 ambitions and is doing everything to get back into the reckoning.

“I know how hard selection is, and if there are better options than me that’s part of international sport. I’m fully aware of that. But I’ll certainly do everything I can with the limited opportunities I will have to force a case,” Root was quoted as saying in Yorkshire cricket’s official website.

I’m not giving up on it at all, but I’m quite realistic in terms of where I am within the shake-up of things at the moment. I want England to do well. I want us to go to World Cups and win. If I’m not in the best eleven or the best squad, so be it. I’ll support whoever’s involved all the way through.”

Joe Root has played 32 T20 internationals in his career so far and has scored 893 runs at an average of 35.7.

He led England to two consecutive series victories in last two-Test series against Pakistan and West Indies. He is just 3 Tests short of achieving the landmark of reaching 100 Tests for England. He has amassed 7823 runs at an average of 48 in Test Cricket.

As far as his ODI performance is concerned, Root has played 146 matches, scoring 5922 runs at an average of 51, including 16 centuries and 33 half-centuries.
