I regret not playing when I see flat wickets: Mike Hesson

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson said that after turning into a coach he regrets that he is not playing whenever he see flat wickets.

He started coaching at the age of 22 which is an early age when you are starting your carrier as a professional coach.

Taking about his coaching journey he served Otago cricket for 15 years as coach before Joining Kenya national team after their dismal performance in 2011 World Cup on a 2-year term.

He didn’t complete his 2-year term and left his job in 2012 and joined New Zealand as Head Coach. He became the longest-serving coach for the Black Caps as under his guidance team reached in the finals of 2015 World Cup. But he ended his tenure with the Kiwi side in 2018.

“Yes, I had a few injuries from back perspective but also got an opportunity to be the director of cricket from a young age which was really fortunate opportunity and I loved it. I absolutely love coaching and loved the opportunity to engage with probably with different levels that gave me plenty of experience. Yeah, I regret not playing at times when I see flat wickets but other than I am happy” Hesson said on the video posted on RCB’s official Twitter handle.

He also talked about his association with Kenyan players in detail as he said the players in Kenya are semi-professional and the obvious reasons is lack of facilities due to which operating or functioning cricket programmes are extremely difficult in that country.
