Alexander Zverev

The fifth seed German player, Alexander Zverev who is also touted as one of the contenders to clinch the ongoing US Open title said that he is in shock after World number 1 Novak Djokovic defaulted from US Open on Sunday.

He was disqualified from the round of 16 after the Serbian accidentally hit the line judge with the tennis ball against Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain.

However, it was clear in the video that he did not intentionally hit the line judge but as per organizers, the tennis stalwart was disqualified on the basis of rules.

Reacting on the incident Zverev said that the supervisors were just doing their job. It was unfortunate for Novak for getting disqualified like this in a big event.

I don’t think I have ever got defaulted yet in my carrier or in my life. No, I haven’t been in situation like that. But as I said, it’s very unlucky, very unfortunate, ” Zverev added.

The decision was made I think by supervisors and as I said they are doing thier job. There is nothing much I can say to that. I am in a little bit of shock right now. to be honest“.

As Djokovic is no more part of US Open in that case Zverev can be the contender to lift the title to which he said he is not thinking about him becoming a champion right now he will be just focusing on one game at a time.

It’s going to be one of the young guys,if you count Dominic Thiem as well. He obviously has chance to win. Now it’s time it really gets interesting. We will see where we go from here”.

The ongoing US Open is not witnessing several top-class tennis stars like Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in action due to COVID-19.
