Harmanpreet Kaur is in Big Trouble, Roger Binny and VVS Laxman will do this
BCCI president Roger Binny and NCA head VVS Laxman are set to conduct an inquiry into the behaviour of Indian women’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, during the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh. Kaur’s ‘outbursts’ during the third match of the series have come under scrutiny, prompting the cricketing legends to intervene.

The incident in question occurred during the third ODI against Bangladesh, when Harmanpreet Kaur exhibited her displeasure with an umpire’s decision by hitting the stumps with her bat after being given out in the 34th over of the match. Furthermore, her remarks about the umpiring made during the post-match presentation ceremony also attracted attention.
As a result of her actions, the International Cricket Council (ICC) found Kaur guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct, leading to a financial fine of 75 percent of her match fees and four demerit points. The accumulation of demerit points resulted in her suspension during the quarter-final and semi-final of the upcoming 2023 Asian Games. With the women’s leg of the Asian Games scheduled from September 19 to September 26, Kaur’s absence could be a significant setback for the Indian team.
In light of the ICC’s verdict and the controversy surrounding Kaur’s behavior, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed Roger Binny and VVS Laxman to address the matter directly with the Indian skipper. According to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the discussions between the cricketing legends and Harmanpreet Kaur will take place in the coming days.
While Kaur’s actions were met with criticism from various quarters, former India captain Anjum Chopra offered a nuanced perspective. Chopra acknowledged Kaur’s passion for winning and the emotions that come with the game, but she also emphasized the importance of voicing one’s displeasure in a more measured manner and choosing words carefully.
As the situation unfolded, there were initial speculations about a possible appeal against the two-match ban imposed on Kaur. However, Jay Shah clarified that the BCCI would not seek revocation or relaxation of the suspension since the appeal window had already elapsed.
The upcoming meeting between the BCCI officials and Harmanpreet Kaur is expected to shed light on the captain’s perspective and provide an opportunity for introspection. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact Kaur’s leadership and her approach on the field going forward.
