Harmanpreet Kaur Creates History At Lord’s With Fifty And 9000 Runs Milestone
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur had a golden day at Lord’s, becoming the first Indian cricketer, to score a half-century in all three international formats at the famous ground. Along with this, she also crossed the 9000-run mark in international cricket, making it a double milestone day for the 37-year-old batter.
A Special Fifty At The Home Of Cricket
On the opening day of the one-off women’s Test against England at Lord’s, Harmanpreet scored a calm and steady 58 in India’s first innings. This knock was extra special because it completed a rare set. She had already scored fifty-plus knocks in ODIs and T20Is at Lord’s in the past. With this new Test fifty, she became the first Indian player, male or female, to score fifties in all three formats at this famous ground.
Her innings came at a time when India needed some steady batting. The team lost two early wickets, with Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia both dismissed inside the first seven overs, leaving India at 37 for 2. After that, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues came together and added 64 runs for the third wicket, slowly repairing the innings. Rodrigues played a quick 35 off 38 balls before losing her wicket to Issy Wong.
Harmanpreet then walked in and joined Mandhana for a strong partnership of 89 runs for the fourth wicket, which pushed India into a good position. Throughout her innings, she looked comfortable at the crease, playing nice cover drives and rotating the strike well as the England bowlers tried hard to find a breakthrough.
Mandhana looked in great touch and seemed ready for a hundred, but she was caught behind off Wong for 83. Soon after, Harmanpreet’s fine innings of 58 came to an end just before the tea break, as debutant spinner Mady Villiers bowled her with a good off-break delivery.
India went into tea at 202 for 5, in a strong position. However, the team could not build further on this platform after the break. England’s bowlers fought back well and took the remaining seven Indian wickets for just 85 runs. Lower down the order, Deepti Sharma played a fighting knock of 57 and added 45 runs with Sneh Rana, which helped India reach a total of 285 in their first innings.
In reply, England played carefully and finished the first day at 21 for 1. Kranti Goud struck early, removing opener Tammy Beaumont for just two runs. At the close of play, Maya Bouchier was batting on 17 alongside Heather Knight, with the hosts still trailing India by 264 runs.
Reaching 9000 International Runs
Along with her special fifty, Harmanpreet also touched a huge personal landmark on the same day. She became only the third Indian woman cricketer to reach 9000 runs in international cricket. She reached this mark during her innings of 58 off 121 balls, hitting seven boundaries along the way while batting at number five.
Before the match started, Harmanpreet needed just 13 runs to reach the 9000-run mark. She got there on the fifth ball of the 24th over of India’s innings. This places her alongside two other legends of Indian women’s cricket who have also crossed this mark. Former India captain Mithali Raj was the first to do so, finishing her career in 2022 with 10,868 runs from 333 matches. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is the second player on this list, and she has now scored 10,667 runs across formats, while also playing her 300th international match during this very Test at Lord’s.
Harmanpreet now sits with a total of 9,045 runs from 374 international matches. Her runs are spread nicely across all three formats. She has 4,541 runs in 164 ODIs, 4,216 runs in 202 T20Is, and 288 runs from 12 innings across eight Test matches.
A Long And Successful International Career
Harmanpreet made her international debut for India in an ODI against Pakistan at Bowral on March 7, 2009. Since then, she has built one of the longest and most successful careers in the history of women’s cricket. She currently holds the record of being the most-capped player in the sport, having played more matches than any other cricketer, man or woman, at the international level.
She is also the only cricketer in the history of the game, across both men’s and women’s international cricket, to have played more than 200 T20I matches. This shows just how long and consistent her career has been, spanning many years and formats.
Success As India Captain
Apart from her personal batting numbers, Harmanpreet has also had a big impact as India’s captain. Under her leadership, India won the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title in November 2025, which stands as one of the biggest achievements of her captaincy so far.
This was not her first big final as captain. Back in 2020, she had led India to the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, though the team finished as runners-up after losing to Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. More recently, Harmanpreet also led India at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. However, this campaign did not go as planned, as India lost to both South Africa and Australia in the group stage, which meant the team could not reach the semifinals. Australia went on to win that tournament on July 5.
