“Hardus Viljoen not playing today because he’s lying in bed with my sister”, says Faf Du Plessis at coin toss ceremony

South African skipper and the captain of the Paarl Rocks team in the Mzansi Super League 2019 left the presenter and the fans in splits when he gave an honest answer at the coin toss ceremony ahead of his side’s game with Nelson Mandela Bay Giants that was being held at Boland Park in Paarl on Sunday. On being asked the changes in the playing XI, Faf du Plessis proceeded to state that bowler Hardus Viljoen will not be playing the game.

On being asked why, Faf said in reply, “Hardus Viljoen not playing today because he’s lying in bed with my sister as they got married yesterday.” Viljoen was seeing du Plessis’ sister Remi Rhynners for almost a year before the two tied the knot on Saturday.

As far as the game goes, Paarl Rocks elected to bat first and scored 168 runs in their quota of 20 overs for the loss of five wickets. Du Plessis scored 22 in 19 deliveries, while Cameron Delport top-scored for the hosts with a knock of 39 runs that came in 22 balls with the help of nine fours. De Plessis lost his wicket to Mthiwekhaya Nabe.

Viljoen has played just one Test for South Africa thus far, when he made his Test debut for the South Africans way back in January 2016 against England. The bowling all-rounder has, however, been playing in various T20 leagues around the world and has represented teams like Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League along with playing for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League.

He has taken 140 wickets in 125 T20 games thus far at an average of 25.56 with best figures of 5 for 16. He was one of the four overseas players who were retained by Kings XI Punjab ahead of the IPL 2020.
