BCB Planning To Take Shakib Al Hasan To The Court

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to take Shakib Al Hasan to the court for one of the endorsement deals that he recently signed.

Shakib has had a deal with the telecom brand Grameenphone which is the rival brand of BCB’s sponsor Robi.

According to BCB, the centrally contracted players were well aware of the board’s instructions that they couldn’t have a deal with Grameenphone, but Shakib still went ahead and had a deal with them which is a clear breach of the contract that he has with BCB.

The BCB has first asked Shakib to submit a reply as to why he agreed to sign a deal with Grameenphone when he knew that the board had prohibited the centrally contracted players to do so.

The BCB president Nazmul Hasan has made it very clear if Shakib fails to provide any satisfactory reason in his reply, he will have to face the consequences.

Nazmul is not particularly happy with the Bangladesh players anyway because of their recent strike which they eventually called off after the board accepted their demands.

And, Shakib’s deal with Grameenphone was signed during that period only, when the players were on strike and there was no communication between them and the board.

“Look at the timing. It was done when there was no cricket [due to strike]. Look at the audacity.” Nazmul was quoted saying by the Bengali newspaper Kalerkantho.

“We are going into legal action. We cannot spare anyone in this regard. We will ask for compensation. We will seek compensation from the company as well as from the player.” Nazmul added.

Shakib was in the forefront of the players’ strike as the captain of the test and the T20I team of Bangladesh. He had actually criticized BCB even before the strike was announced.
