Ganguly First Priority is to Look After Ranji Cricketers as BCCI President

If you are a 90’s kid, then you must have grown watching the match-fixing scandal, how Indian cricket shattered and when no one was ready to put his hands in the dirt, the prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly took over the captaincy and changed the Indian cricket forever.

Everyone knows the contribution of Sourav Ganguly in Indian cricket, how he cleaned the dirt and brought in young players like Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra, MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh, who went on to become global superstars of the next decade.

Fast forward to 2019, BCCI is facing the same concern, the regional politics, corruption charges have dented the image of BCCI. This will be the biggest challenge for Ganguly to restore the lost prestige and image of BCCI.

Monday is the last day for filing the nominations, but no elections will be held after the candidates went unopposed due to lobbying, but Ganguly still feels that it will be a huge responsibility.

“Whether you are elected unopposed or otherwise, it’s a big responsibility because it is the biggest organization in the world of cricket. India is a powerhouse. It will be a challenge,” the former Indian captain told India Today.

Ganguly, who is currently serving as CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) will have to vacate his post next year in July as per BCCI rules, “That’s the rule. So we will have to deal with it. My first priority will be to look after first-class cricketers,” added Ganguly.

Another pointer in the Ganguly priority list is taking care after old tournaments like Ranji Trophy and domestic players financial interests. “I had requested the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and they have not listened. Ranji Trophy cricket will be the focus. To take care of cricketers’ financial interest,” Ganguly concluded.
