Former Pakistani Cricketers criticize Babar Azam and ask him to relinquish captaincy

Pakistan might have entered the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as one of the most lethal bowling sides but things are not so well at the Pakistani camp currently. The extent is such that former Pakistani cricketers are even demanding for Babar Azam to relinquish his captaincy, asking him to hand it over to Left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi.

With only 4 games to go in the WC league stages, Pakistan’s upcoming matches have put them in a situation where winning remains as the only option. They won only 4 out of 10 points in offer from their first five matches and now even if they win all of their remaining fixtures, they will only be able to amass 12 points.

Which is definitely not going to be enough as they are somehow behind by the average points required for Top 4 qualification. And today if Australia beat Netherlands they will get to 6 points and it will make things even more difficult for the Men in Green.

Pakistan will face a very stiff challenge against South Africa on 27th October and given their current forms, the former team is more likely to lose. The 1992 World champions were hammered by Afghanistan in their previous WC match as Hashmatullah Shahidi‘s side won by 7 wickets, chasing down the target of 283.

On all such notes, former Pakistan cricketers like Wasim Akram, Misbah Ul haq, Ramiz Raja, Rashid Latif and Mohammad Hafiz among others have all slammed Babar Azam’s ability to do well as the captain.

1992 World cup winner Aaqib Javed stated that Babar Azam as Captain has failed to prove himself and his worth in white ball cricket and that Shaheen Shah Afridi should now be handed over the Captaincy role. “Shaheen is the best bet for the future of Pakistan cricket. Babar has failed to prove himself as an able captain in white ball formats.”

The same edition’s highest wicket taker, Wasim Akram was more concerned about the fitness and rich diet of the players which is not enabling them to be 100% fit.

“In modern day cricket how do you expect to do well if you are not 100 percent fit? How can you take catches or stop boundaries? The way some of our players fielded it appeared as if they were enjoying a diet of rich dishes and food.” – Wasim Akram said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s last 4 Cricket World Cup 2023 matches will see them play against South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand and England.
