Former Barca UCL winner Dani Alves faces indictment from Spanish Judiciary

After being detained in January on allegations of sexual assault at a Barcelona nightclub in December, former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves has now been formally indicted by a Spanish judge. The 40-year-old has been held in prison without bail, as the judge found evidence of wrongdoing in the case. Alves maintains that the encounter was consensual, according to his lawyer. Despite the indictment, he has decided not to appeal, ensuring that the legal process will continue without further delay.

“Alves is upset with the narrative of the facts. He disagrees with it.” – his lawyer told reporters.

In Spain, rape allegations fall under the category of sexual assault, carrying potential prison sentences ranging from four to 15 years upon conviction. The prosecution is now required to present formal charges to the court, which will then schedule a trial date.

Dani Alves boasts an impressive career, making 408 appearances for Barcelona, securing six league titles and three Champions Leagues in two stints with the club. Additionally, he represented Brazil in the 2022 World Cup.
