England women secure 5-0 series win vs West Indies in bizarre five-over finish

England women team have inflicted 5-0 whitewashes on West Indies counterparts in 5 over contest at Derby ground. It was raining all day and the chances of a game looked very bleak. The game was minutes away from being called off but weather conditions improved as there was just enough time for a 5 over the game.

England & WI went in with few changes to give bench strength some game time. Heather Knight won the toss and elected to bowl first. Dottin smashed a six and a four as 11 runs came off first over by Davies although she managed to take the wicket of Hayley Mathews. Ecclestone and Brunt then bowled decent 4 overs which went for a total of 30 runs and also had a wicket apiece.

I reached 41 in 5 overs and would have felt 10-15 runs short for a par score. England would have certainly backed themselves to chase down the target. Connell dismissed Knight and Jones in first over to reduce England to 5/2 with 37 required in 24 balls. There was done desperation in England players as they did score some boundaries but started losing wickets in clusters. They were also not helped by the mindless running of their players. At end of 3rd over England were 27/5 with Connell taking 3/14 in her 2 overs.

A wicketless fourth over went 8 runs were scored. Selman was bowling the last over with 7 runs required but the drama was not finished yet. England players were still running mindlessly as two more wickets fell to run-outs. An equation was 3 require in 3 balls with 3 wickets remaining.

England players were looking to throw away the match but Selman did not want any favour and bowled two consecutive no balls to hand England the victory. Nine England players batted and none went into double digits shows about the madness in their batting. England should not have loose these many wickets but then chasing down a score brings this kind of pressure and which forces players to commit silly mistakes. England were dominant throughout the series, barring last 5 overs and WI batters didn’t show any intent to chase down targets except Dottin.
