England name 14-man squad for three-match T20I series against Pakistan

England named the 14-man squad for the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan on Tuesday. The T20I series is scheduled to start from August 28 at the Old Trafford.

The T20I team has some surprising inclusions as the Yorkshire power hitter David Malan has been named in the 14-man squad. While Somerset batting all-rounder Lewis Gregory has also been included in the squad for the series. He last played for England in November 2019 when England visited New Zealand.

Former England batsman Graham Thorpe will be the head coach of the team and Paul Collingwood will serve as the assistant coach during the series.

Surprisingly, James Vince has not been included in the squad after a streak of low scores during the ODI series against Ireland earlier this month.

None of the players of the Test team has been included in the 14-man squad for the T20I series in order to give opportunities to as may players.

“In this crowded international summer, players who are currently in the Test match bio-secure bubble for the Pakistan Test series are not included in this squad.” National selector Ed Smith said.

“We want to give multi-format players some opportunity to rest and refresh, while still selecting strong squads for every series. We will announce the squad for the Australia T20 series at a later date.” he further added.

Eoin Morgan will be leading the side while Jonny Bairstow will keep wickets during the series. Moeen Ali has also been named in the squad alongside Adil Rashid.

England’s 14-man squad:

Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Lewis Gregory, Chris Jordan, Saqib Mahmood, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, David Willey
