BCCI plans on staging this year's IPL in UAE

Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday confirmed of receiving the letter that the BCCI sent to them regarding the preparations of the upcoming Indian Premier League.

The letter of intent implies that there are no more hurdles for the IPL this year and it shall go as per the dates announced by the IPL chairman Brijesh Patel. Mubashshir Usmani, the General Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board said that they only need the green flag from the Indian government to proceed with the further arrangements of the tournament.

“We have received the (official) letter and now wait on the decision from the Indian Government which will ink the final deal,” Mubashshir Usmani said a statement.

The matches may take place at multiple venues in UAE and that may include Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah Sports Councils grounds. The UAE had earlier intended on hosting the IPL back in April this year but the decision on the future of the T20 World Cup was the only reason that stopped the BCCI from taking any decision.

“There are many factors that influence the operations and logistics of hosting what is the world’s most exciting, popular, and lucrative tournament. This is a massive movement of people and equipment and we now need to bring in the experts to discuss all aspects of UAE hosting the IPL,” Usmani further added.

The UAE had previously hosted half of the IPL in 2014 due to the Lok Sabha elections in India that time and this would be the second time the Indian cash-rich league will be hosted there. The IPL teams will start leaving for the training camps from August 20 and as per the reports, CSK will be the first team to leave for the UAE next month.
