Dinesh Karthik’s opinion regarding split captaincy in Indian Cricket Team

Under Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy, Team India played admirably in the just concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home. The hosts won both the series handily by a score of 3-0 and claimed first place in the ICC ODI standings. But all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been leading Team India in the shortest format.

Hardik led India to a series victory over Sri Lanka earlier this month, demonstrating his strengths as a captain. The decision to name two captains for various formats has not yet been made by the management, and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik believes that it would be determined by how well India performs at the upcoming ODI World Cup.

“If the situation warrants it, why not? However, for two reasons, it is not appropriate for me to speak at this time. One, after the IPL, India will only play three more T20 matches until the 2023 World Cup, when they will play the West Indies. I believe we will fully understand the situation once the competition is over,” stated Karthik on Cricbuzz.

“If Rohit Sharma’s squad doesn’t continue to perform admirably there, then may be a chance for a split captaincy; I suppose the chance will arise at that time. In contrast, if Rohit succeeds in achieving something extraordinary, we would all be willing to reconsider and give him a go at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Hardik has done a “marvellous job” leading the T20Is against Sri Lanka, the wicketkeeper-batter continued, complimenting him on his captaincy.

“At the moment, I think Hardik has done a fantastic job. The T20 match against Sri Lanka that was played in Mumbai serves as a prime example. That game was fantastic. On a day with little dew, the attempt to stop Sri Lanka for 160 was fantastic. There, he displayed his leadership skills, said Karthik.

In the ongoing T20I series between Team India and New Zealand, where the visitors are currently leading, Hardik is the all-around player. On Friday, the visitors hammered the hosts by 21 runs in the opening game.
