De Bruyne’s brilliance finally ends Leicester’s unbeaten run

Leicester City’s 11-game unbeaten run came to an end after the defending Premier League champions Manchester City crushed a 3-1 win victory at the Etihad Stadium. The game was all about Kevin de Bruyne, who outclassed the second-placed Leicester after conceding an early goal courtesy of a stunning attack by Jamie Vardy.

Leicester stunned the Etihad Stadium after Vardy helped to take the lead for his side at the 22 minutes of the game, but it took only 8 minutes for the forward Leicester man Riyad Mehraz to score an equalizer. The defending champions then managed to take a lead just before the half time as they were awarded a penalty which was comfortably scored by Ilkay Gundogan.

The second half was all about Manchester City as they dominated the visitors in all aspects. After creating a lot of chances, the third goal finally games during the 69th minute courtesy of a brilliant cross from De Bruyne which turned into an easy tap in for Gabriel Jesus.

The victory keeps Manchester City third on the table, but they are now only one point away from grabbing the second spot. Meanwhile, the new Club World Cup champions Liverpool are sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 49 points in 17 games.

However, Man City coach Pep Guardiola believes if his side continues to play like this, then they can compete with anyone and also had words full of praise for the Belgium midfielder.

“If we play like this we did tonight, we can compete with everyone. Kevin de Bruyne was incredible tonight, He won the game for us. He has always been incredible since we have been together. His commitment is incredible and he’s a spectacular player,” he said.

Meanwhile, despite a 3-1 defeat, Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers took the defeat as a real good lesson and appreciated his players for putting up a tremendous display in the last eleven games.

“The result shows how well my players have done to be where they are. It was a really good lesson for us tonight. Their quality, intensity, we certainly have no complaints about the result. Second half we were more like ourselves but it still showed with this young group, there is a long way for them to go,” he said.

Rodgers also hailed the Belgium midfielder, who outclassed Leicester in the game as a world-class player.

“You see De Bruyne tonight and the level he is at, it’s a world-class level. To be ahead of Man City at this stage of the season shows you how well we have done,” he concluded.
