DDCA ombudsman (retd) Judge Deepak Verma on Sunday issued a show-cause notice to the five members of the Financial Committee and Infra Committee on the construction work going on at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Lokpal has issued notice to the members taking cognizance of a report published in a leading daily highlighted discrepancy in the construction work going on at the Arun Jaitley Stadium under DDCA. The DDCA is facing allegations of scams in the construction of lounges, restaurants and bars. On 28 February, DDCA Joint Secretary Rajan Manchanda said in the DDCA Apex Council that the Arun Jaitley Stadium has shown excessive expenditure on construction of lounges, restaurants and bars etc.

DDCA Lokpal said in his order, “I received an e-mail from Rajan Manchanda in which he informed about the unauthorized payment of Rs 34 lakh which was given to MSL Jangid JV Company. He had requested a show-cause notice to the Infra Committee members. Apart from this, two officials of DDCA and the Apex Council have also asked me for a date in which they will inform me about the said incident and the issues raised in the complaint thereafter.”

Further, the order read, “I then direct the following person from the Financial Committee and Infra Committee to appear on 31 March and issue a show-cause notice to Sanjay Bhardwaj (Financial Committee), Apoorva Jain (Financial and Infra Committee), Alok Mittal (Financial and Infra Committee), SN Sharma (Financial Committee), Nitin Gupta (Infra Committee).”

The Lokpal also raised concerns over the outbreak of novel coronavirus and urged that the election for the post of the president should be postponed. It is to be noted that the post of DDCA president has been vacant since Rajat Sharma resigned from his post.

Election Officer Naveen Chawla wrote an e-mail to Deepak requesting him to postpone the election. In his letter to the DDCA Lokpal, Naveen in his letter expressed his concern over holding elections during the outbreak of deadly coronavirus infection. He said that it will not be right to declare an election date until the situation becomes clear and better. Naveen further indicated that Delhi government has banned the gathering of more than 200 people at one place by 31 March.
