Virat Kohli’s century drought has ended after a long time and he has started breaking records in every match once again after a long break of three years. He started 2023 with a bang when he scored two centuries in three ODIs in the series against Sri Lanka. He scored 113 runs in the First ODI and then scored an unbeaten 166 in the Third ODI and ensured India win the series with a clean sweep.
He was at the eighth spot on the ICC ODI batting rankings before the Sri Lanka series but his two tons in three matches helped him take a giant leap of four places and he reached the fourth spot as soon as the series ended. He currently has 750 points in the rankings and the players ahead of him are Quinton de Kock of South Africa at the third spot (759 points), Rassie van der Dussen at the second spot (766 points), and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam at the top with 887 points.
With the form Kohli has right now, it is only a matter of a few matches before Kohli is going to be at that Numero Uno spot once again. India is set to play a lot of ODIs this year and Virat Kohli has a golden chance of reigning the number one crown again. This is a World Cup year that is set to be played in India and Kohli’s form is crucial for the team in that aspect as well.
Virat Kohli now has 74 international centuries to his name, 26 behind the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. He has 46 tons in the ODIs out of these 74, just 3 behind the Master Blaster, and this is a record that he might break this year only. And if Virat breaks this record this year, the number-one spot will be his once again.
