David Weise Biography

David Wiese, a Namibian cricket player who was born in South Africa and currently represents Namibia internationally, was born on May 18, in the year 1985. Wiese qualified to represent the national cricket team of Namibia in international cricket because his father was born in Namibia. Before making his international debut for Namibia in the month of October of the year 2021, Wiese played cricket internationally for South Africa from the years 2013 to 2016.

Early Life

Wiese was raised in the Mpumalanga Province’s eastern region. David Wiese spent his formative years in the agricultural community of Standerton. David Wiese attended the high school at Witbank, a center for coal mining. David Wiese started his journey of playing cricket when he was just nine years old.

David Wiese received his cricket coaching at an academy of cricket run by South African coach Harry Shapiro. At the cricket academy, David Wiese first developed a love and interest for the sport of spin bowling. But as David Wiese became older and taller, David Wiese continued to pursue his interest in bowling.

David wanted to play cricket professionally, but his parents discouraged him, telling him to concentrate more on his schoolwork. David was transferred to the University of Pretoria to complete his internal auditing degree. Throughout David’s first year at the University of Pretoria, David Wiese occasionally played cricket for the third team of the university.

David Wiese previously concluded his time with South Africa in the year 2017 to play county cricket. 67 first-class appearances have been made by him since his debut in the month of October of the year 2005. David Wiese presently competes in PSL for Lahore Qalandars. David Wiese was chosen to play for South Africa in the 2009 Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, where David Wiese finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, and for the South Africa Invitation XI in two matches against England due to his recent success in first-class cricket. David Wiese is renowned for his powerful low order batting and capacity for slow ball delivery.

Domestic Cricket Career

Wiese, a talented batsman, made a significant impact in his first domestic season with Easterns in the 2005–06 SAA Provincial Cup. David Wiese scored 526 runs and took 26 wickets in nine first-class matches, including a technical glitch in a match against the Knights. David Wiese got connected and signed with Sussex County Cricket Club for the T20 Blast of the year 2016 and became a mainstay with the club after signing a three-year Kolpak deal in the year 2017.

David Wiese was part of the Tshwane Spartans’ 2019 Mzansi Super League and later became an integral member of Lahore Qalandars’ PSL franchise. Wiese left Sussex in 2020, but David Wiese remained with the club as an overseas player for the 2021 T20 Blast and the 2021 Lanka Premier League.

International Cricket Career

Wiese made his T20I (Twenty 20 International) debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka in the year 2013, but was dropped from the national team and played domestic cricket. David Wiese made his One Day International (ODI) debut against the cricket team of New Zealand in the year 2015. Wiese was included in the South African squad for the 2016 ICC World Twenty 20 but signed a Kolpak deal with Sussex, ending his international career. In the month of August of the year 2021, Namibian cricket coach Pierre de Bruyn confirmed Wiese’s availability for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

David Wiese was part of the Namibian team that won their first match at an ICC tournament, defeating the Netherlands by 6 wickets. Wiese scored 227 runs, a batting average of 45.40, and took 6 wickets in 8 matches. David Wiese was nominated for the ICC Player of the Month in the month of October of the year 2021. In the month of March of the year 2022, David Wiese made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Namibia against Oman, becoming the 15th cricketer to represent two international teams in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

Rise in ranks

In the Titans team for the 2012 Champions League Twenty 20, Wiese was present. David Wiese smashed 61 runs off just 28 balls, that includes six sixes as well, in the semifinal of the 2012 CLT20 match against the cricket team of Sydney Sixers, helping the cricket team of Titans to a respectable score total of 163/5. Despite Titans being eliminated from the Champions League T20 semi final, his performance gained praise and attention on social media.

After his dismissal, David Wiese was expected to succeed Jacques Kallis as an all-rounder in the limited overs format and to step into Lance Klusener’s shoes. His subsequent inclusion in the South African T20I (Twenty 20 International) squad for the 2013 tour of Sri Lanka was based on both his batting prowess and the need for a replacement for the injured Jacques Kallis.
