CSK CEO gives major update on return of MS Dhoni for his farewell IPL 2024 season

Former ICC Cricket World Cup, Champions Trophy and T20 World cup winning captain with India, MS Dhoni is most likely to return in time for IPL 2024. During a recent interview, Chennai Super Kings CEO K Vishwanathan revealed a lot of things about Dhoni, his knee injury and his possible return to the Cricket field.

Last month, MS Dhoni led CSK to their 5th-IPL title and equaled Mumbai Indians’ tally of most IPL titles. CSK defeated Hardik Pandya’s defending champions Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final by 5-wickets in a thrilling contest on 29th May.

Due to continuous rain on 28th May, the final took place on 29th May at the Narendra Modi Stadium. GT Batted first and scored 214 runs, thanks to blistering knocks from Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Hardik Pandya.

However, rain interrupted just before CSK came out to bat and the revised target was 171 according to the Duck Worth Lewis method. Following the departures of CSK’s top order, All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube guided the 4-time champions towards their 5th IPL title.

Then during the post-match presentations, Captain MS Dhoni spoke about his chances of making it to next year’s IPL. He said – “The amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL.” 

K Vishwanathan unfolds conversation with MS Dhoni

K Vishwanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings revealed that he had a word with MS Dhoni after the Final. The 41-year-old was dealing with a knee injury and he underwent a knee surgery right after the final. Vishwanathan disclosed that Dhoni is somehow feeling better than before and he is currently undergoing Rehabilitation in his hometown at Ranchi.

“He told us immediately after the final is over, he’ll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab. In Mumbai, after Ruturaj’s wedding (on June 4), I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He’s quite comfortable. He said he’ll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he’s not going to play until January-February. We don’t need to remind him about all that.”  – Vishwanathan said.
