Chelsea rightfully earned a single point against the third-placed Leicester City at King Power Stadium on a day where the Blues defender, Antonio Rudiger scored a double to end the match with a scoreline of 2-2.

Even though Chelsea dominated the first half, it was Leicester City who tried to go on the front foot. However, Jamie Vardy was denied by Willy Caballero who started the game in place of Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga. On the other hand, Tammy Abraham’s penalty claim was denied after VAR showed that the English youngster fell on the feet of Caglar Soyuncu rather any foul-play happened.

In the second half, Chelsea seent waves of attack to break the deadlock. The waves eventually lead to the scoring of goal from Antonio Rudiger who headed the ball and scored it for the first time since October 2018.

The joy was shortlived for Frank Lampard side and Harvey Barnes scored the goal for the Foxes before the hour mark. Further adding to the misery of Chelsea, Ben Chilwell slotted the ball into the net to give the lead for Leicester.

Down but not defeated was the mantra for Chelsea. Antonio Rudiger, in the 71st minute, through a looping header, scored for the Blues and saved the blushes. They not only did snatch a draw from Rodgers’ side but also strengthened their position in the fourth place until the winter break is over.

Regarding the rumours circling around Kepa Arrizabalaga and his drop against Leicester City, Frank Lampard opined that it was a difficult job for him to leave out the layer. He opined:

You make decisions every day in this job and no decision is easy. When it comes to goalkeepers, you probably do give it a little more thought and time, especially with someone who is designated No 1

On the other hand, Leicester City gaffer, Brendan Rodgers felt that the whole game depends on the mindset and not on the status of being an underdog or not doesn’t matter. He said:

If Chelsea are underdogs, we must be super underdogs. Chelsea are Europa League champions and for us to be here it shows how the players have been incredible,” the Leicester manager said.

“We didn’t lose any ground but there is still a huge fight for us to stay where we are. That’s something we will look forward to.

“We showed great personality in the game and by the end we’re disappointed not to have won it. It’s not all about talent, it’s about desire and mentality and the players showed that.”
