Sania Mirza has inspired young tennis players to carve out names for themselves and represent the nation at the highest level, just like Vishwanathan Anand did for young Indian chess players.
Sania Mirza recently announced her retirement from competition, but her legacy will endure forever.
She will still teach tennis in Hyderabad and Dubai, but words cannot adequately express her commitment to Indian sports.
The first Indian woman tennis player to finish in the top 30 of the women’s singles rankings, tennis legend started her career as a singles player.
Due to an injury, she was forced to change her strategy and focus on doubles; since then, she hasn’t turned back.
“My professional career started in Melbourne… I couldn’t think of a better arena to finish my [Grand Slam] career at.”

In her career, she had won six grand slam titles, and her last match, in the mixed doubles division, was with Rohan Bopanna, with whom she had first played when they were both just 14 years old.
Children of today would not comprehend Sania Mirza’s genuine significance or the impact she has on sports.
She played with all of her heart and soul for India, giving it her all.
Given that Mirza’s legacy was not created overnight and that it took years and months for her to become Sania Mirza, it will be difficult to fill the vacuum left by her retirement from the international circuit. However, for the time being, Mirza reigns supreme.
Here are some comments made on Twitter and other social media following her retirement from tennis:
