Virat Kohli scored a hundred in the 1st Odi against Sri lanka, and lead his team to victory. This was Kohli’s 45th century in One Day Internationals. In case of ODI centuries, Kohli comes at no.2 in the world, just below the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar who is holding the record with 49 centuries in ODI’s. Although, Sachin had total 100 centuries in international cricket and Kohli is far away from this milestone as Kohli’s centuries are less in no. in Test cricket.
But, when it comes to ODI’s, Kohli is not so far to break Sachin’s record of 49 tons. As, he just needs 5 tons to reach the milestone which is expected to be done very soon, the way he is going through his current form. Kohli’s current form looks great and there are many opportunities for him to do this in the coming season as, after the Sri lanka series, India will play the ODI’ series with the Kiwi’s and Kangaroos.
Another supporting factor for Kohli is the age factor. Right now Kohli is 34 years old, this means he still had 3-4 years to play according to an average playing age of a cricketer. This is much time is enough for him to break this record. Kohli’s biggest factor of success is his consistency rate that’s why he is also known as Mr. consistent.
According to stats, Kohli just took 253 innings to make 45 centuries in ODI’s, whereas Sachin made 49 tons in 452 ODI innings. This shows the scoring rate of kohli, that is too good. Kohli might have passed this record a long ago, as he made his 43rd hundred in 2019 against West Indies and his 44th ton came after 3 years in 2022 against Bangladesh. This gap was the time when kohli was going through a poor form and the worst phase of his career, and it has been a century draught of more than 3 years for him. But, now it seems, that the record will be broken soon as the star batter is back in form.
