Bumrah: 2019 has been a year of learning

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action since the tour of West Indies after suffering from a lower back injury, is looking to regain full fitness and play for the national team again. Out since September, the Gujarat fast bowler has recovered before New Year and will be seen in action from the T20I series against Sri Lanka that will begin from Januray 5. He has also been selected in the three match ODI series against the Aussies that will be held after the games against the Lankans.

Bunrah looked back at what has been a tough year for him physically and hoped that he could come back stronger in 2020.

“2019 has been a year of accomplishments, learning, hard work and making memories, on the field and off it too. And on the last day of the year, I’m looking forward to everything that 2020 has to offer,” Bumrah tweeted.

Bumrah had a phenomenal 2019 even though he was not seen in action since September. He played three Tests this year, finishing with 14 wickets at an average of 13.14 including a hattrick and two five-wicket hauls – both against West Indies He also became only the first Asian bowler to bag five wicket hauls in South Africa, Australia, West Indies and England.

In ODIs, Bumrah led the pace attack in the World Cup and bagged 9 wickets from 14 games. More than the number of wickets he got, the way he bowled in the death and in pressure situations was the highlight, and made him a much-revered bowler going ahead. Bumrah was also on fire in the Indian Premier League this year where he played for the Mumbai Indians.
