Bruno needs to adapt quickly in intense and physical Premier League: Lucas Torreira

Lucas Torreira has warned new Manchester United recruit, Bruno Fernandes, about the rigours of the Premier League after the latter’s transfer to Old Trafford.

United on Thursday signed the Portuguese midfielder from Sporting Lisbon for a sum of £47 million and will now be with United till 2025 with an option to extend his contract for a further year.bruno-fernandes-lucas-torreira

Interestingly, Arsenal’s Torreira and Fernandes were team-mates at Italian outfit Sampdoria for just one season in 2016-17 before Sporting signed the midfielder in June 2017.

And in June 2018, Torreira left the Italian outfit for the Gunners and in his second season at the Emirates Stadium, the Uruguayan advised Fernandes to adapt quickly further stating that the Premier League is more physical and intense than Serie A.

‘I really hope he adapts quickly, particularly as the Premier League is so physical and intense as a championship,’ Torreira told Sky Sports.

‘I’m sure he has the right mentality to adapt quickly.

‘Obviously he’s joining a big club in Manchester United so I hope he enjoys the move.’

Meanwhile, Fernandes promised to give his all to the club while also thanking his new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for giving him an opportunity to prove himself at Old Trafford.bruno-fernandes-sporting-lisbon

“My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club.

“For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible, I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies. I want to thank Sporting for everything they have done for me.

“It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team. A massive thank you to Ole and everyone at Manchester United for the trust they have shown in me and I can’t wait to start to repay that on the pitch.”

Solskjaer said that the winter break will help United integrate Bruno easily into the squad.

“We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team,” he said.

“Most importantly he is a terrific human being with a great personality and his leadership qualities are clear for all to see.

“Bruno’s goals and assists stats speak for themselves, he will be a fantastic addition to our team and he will help us push on in the second part of the season.

“The winter break is coming at a perfect time for us to integrate Bruno into the squad and for him to get to know his team-mates.”
