Cricket has been given the very beautiful title name; Gentlemen’s Game for its worldwide popularity. Cricket is one of the most popular games in the world that has been enjoyed by millions of fans worldwide. What makes it more popular is its transparency. However, despite that, cricket has been accused many times in terms of fixing which is called the curse to the gentlemen’s game.

Spot fixing, an old term in cricket, is a curse for such a wonderful game. India has taken multiple steps to prevent the game from rusting that defames and fades the quality and preciseness of the game. Former police commissioner of Delhi, Neeraj Kumar, also served as the chief of anti corruption unit the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has bursted the rampant match fixing involved in regional leagues.

He says that it was me who brought the subject of spot fixing to the fore; BCCI was not interested in it. “I was not given an office, or a team. Nor did anyone ask me about the corruption”, he further says in his conversational podcast with Siddharth Bhatia.

Kumar has also written a book named “A Cop in Cricket”. While operating with his tiny team of two persons with a solid network of informants, the former commissioner has busted the match fixing that was going on smoothly in regional leagues in different states under the watch of state associations. “It was clear even to the naked eye that the games were fixed”, he said. The leagues however were shut down and sent overseas but they are now coming back slowly. “At the top level, corruption in cricket has been contained,” he further added to his statements.

Kumar feels the urgent need for an anti-corruption law for sports, like many other countries.
