BCCI invites candidates for a Vacant National selection committee post

BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that applications are now open for the vacant position of one member in the men’s selection committee. This position has been unoccupied since February.

Current members of the committee consist of Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sridharan Sharath, and Shiv Sundar Das. Currently, Shiv Sundar Das is serving as the interim chairperson, assuming the role after the previous chair, Chetan Sharma, resigned due to his involvement in a sting operation in February.

Meanwhile in order to be selected for this position, all the candidates are supposed to meet certain requirements. They must have played a minimum of 7 Test matches or 30 First Class matches or 10 One Day International matches and 20 First Class matches. Furthermore, candidates must have retired from the game at least 5 years prior to their application.

Individuals who have been members of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of BCCI) for a cumulative period of five years are disqualified from becoming members of the Men’s Selection Committee.

Chetan Sharma’s involvement in a sting operation conducted by Zee News revealed his alleged statements, claiming that Indian players were using injections to maintain their fitness. He also purportedly mentioned that Hardik Pandya, who has been leading the Indian team in T20Is since the T20 World Cup, frequently visited his residence. Following the complete revamp of the selection panel after the T20 World Cup in November, Sharma was reappointed in January.

The BCCI will be determined to change the outlook of team India after losing the WTC Final for the 2nd time in a row. With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 scheduled to start from October, BCCI must do whatever they can in order to send a team which finally end the ICC trophy drought.
