Barcelona player admits Premier League is greater than La Liga

Barcelona’s new signing, Frenkie de Jong admits that Premier League is of higher quality compared to that of the La Liga. This opinion of the Dutch midfielder has become viral and people have started asking questions over his opinion.

The Ajax product caught the attention of big European clubs after his exploits in the Champions League, last season. Frenkie de Jong was wanted all over from England and Spain, but in the end, the player chose Barcelona over the clubs of England and since then he has notched up his game, this season.

Talking to the sports outlet, The Mirror, Frenkie de Jong opined;

“I used to think that La Liga was the strongest football league in the world. You could see their dominance in European Cup competitions,

The Spanish clubs always progressed a long way and often grabbed the main trophies, the Champions League and Europa League.

“But the Premier League has gained power over the last few years.

“When it comes to pure skills, La Liga is better. But because of the sheer intensity, the English competition is at a slightly higher level.

It is a well-known fact that the 22-year-old Dutch prodigy was wanted by the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. However, none of the deal could materialize for Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola who has been an admirer of the player. The Dutch manager, Ronald Koeman opined with respect to the same;

“I had discussed two names with Pep for a long while – and those names were Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt,

Pep was wild about the type of midfielder Frenkie is. He wanted to know all about him.

“Frenkie is now one of the best midfielders in the world. His biggest quality? He has the ability to wait one of two more seconds before he decides what he is going to do with the ball. And then suddenly he gives a pass, which is beautiful and makes everyone think, ‘My God!’”

What if Frenkie de Jong had joined Manchester City in the summer? Could he have helped Pep Guardiola to retain the Premier League title which is going away little by little to Liverpool? Voice your comments below.
