Australia legend Ian Healy slams India for producing Unreasonable Pitches

Former Australian Wicket-keeper Batsman Ian Healy has come out to slam the BCCI for producing tracks/pitches which favors India. During a radio session with an Australian network, Healy reminisced Australia’s tour of India in 2017 – stating that favorable pitches for India helped them defeat the Aussies.

He spoke about this issue a month before the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts. The last time both the teams met during a Test series in India, the Kangaroos after winning the first test, ended up losing the 4-match series by 2-1 with India winning the 2nd and 4th test.

“If they produce unreasonable wickets like they did half the series last time (we won’t win), two wickets were just terrible, unfair, spinners jumping over your head on day one. They’ve got a good team but I’m not too scared of their spinners unless they produce unreasonable wickets.” – said Ian Healy SENQ Breakfast with Pat and Heals radio show.

Healy also expressed that if India are to tailor-made these type of pitches then Australia have no chances at all but if there are flat batting tracks where bowlers will have to do the hard-work then the Aussies can upset the hosts. Although his prediction was that India are likely to repeat the same feat as 2017 and beat Australia by 2-1 if Mitchell Starc is available for the 1st Test.

The 58-year-old also shed light on the inclusion of Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw and how these 2 players will impact Australia’s chances. “Renshaw can play spin better, if that’s what’s required, than Marcus, and Handscombe is well-known as a good player of spin but also has got the gloves, he can put the gloves on if the wicket-keeper goes down.”

Will Australia win the Border-Gavaskar trophy this year or will India keep their dominance intact?
