The first session of the third day of this ongoing fourth test match of Ashes 2023 was a highlight of what happened yesterday. England just batted, batted, and batted. The grinding on the field continues for Australia, and they are quite behind in this test match now.

England finished the lunch session with 506 runs on the board and two wickets left in their first innings. This is the first time since 2010/11 that England have notched up a total in excess of 500 in an Ashes test match.
After some exceptional fireworks from the bats of Joe Root and Zak Crawley yesterday, the third began with Harry Brook and captain Ben Stokes at the crease. Stokes reached his fifty in no time as he attacked from ball one. He was knocked over by his opposing captain with a score of 51.
After Stokes’ wicket, Brook made his third fifty of the series and batted really sensibly. He was then out to Hazelwood, who has been the best bowler in this morning’s session for Australia. He is just a wicket away from his fifer and would be looking to complete it as soon as possible.
After Brook’s wicket, it seemed like England would get bundled out before lunch, but Bairstow has held the fort since then and is looking in good touch. He has batted with a strike rate in excess of 100 and is looking adamant for a big score.
Five of the top seven batters of this England team have made a 50+ score in this inning, and the sixth batter is also in line and is just 9 runs away. There is still a lot of time left in this match, but the weather forecast from here on does not look good.
England currently have a lead of 189 runs, and Bairstow would like to add some quick runs to it after lunch along with Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Pat Cummins will look to get these two wickets as early as possible to have an outside chance in this match. The declaration will also be around the corner as soon as England crosses the 200-run mark.
