The day started with Australia in a very comfortable position with 130 runs on the board for the loss of just two wickets and a lead of 221 runs in total. The morning session saw them score 92 runs for the loss of three wickets.

The first ball of the day was put away for four by Smith, and he cleared his team’s intentions. After two overs, Smith hit Anderson for three boundaries in one over and showed everyone the bigger picture as to how Australia is dominating England.

After a lot of misses and edges, England finally found the top edge of Usman Khwaja, which enabled them to sneak in through this Aussie batting lineup. In the very next over, Head was dropped off his first ball of the innings by Anderson, but Smith got out the very next ball and gifted England a wicket.

Broad managed to show his magic once again as he got Travis Head out cheaply as well. Khwaja made a score of 77 before getting out, and more importantly, he made the bowlers toil hard and make them tired. Smith also made 34 runs but got out to Josh Tongue.

Carey and Green are still at the crease, and they will be looking to bat at a rapid pace after the lunch session to reach a safe score as soon as possible. The weather is unpredictable in England, and Australia would want to have a good amount of time on their hands.

England have managed to take 3 wickets, but they have leaked runs, which has also led Australia to extend their lead to over 300 runs. These two are the last recognised batting pair, but Cummins and Starc can hang around a bit as well.

England now needs to take the other wickets as early as they can and give themselves a target of under 400. There is no update on Nathan Lyon’s status, whether he will bowl or not, but if any team can still possibly win the match from here, it is England.
