Usman Khawaja slams ICC for slapping a 10-point deduction from current WTC cycle

Australian opener Usman Khawaja slammed the International Cricket Council after the apex cricketing body slapped a penalty on both England and Australia for slow over rate during the recently concluded Ashes 2023. Khawaja took to Twitter to express his disappointment on this matter.

ICC noticed that both of the teams maintaind a slow over rate during the 4th Ashes Test at Manchester’s Old Trafford. Australia were 2-1 up by then with England closing in on winning the Manchester Test. However, rain spoiled the party for the Hosts as Day 5 ended with a draw with Australia retaining the Ashes Urn.

In the light of that incident, Usman Khawaja stated that he did not understand the logic behind ICC’s decision as most of the match was haulted due to rain. “Don’t even get the chance to bowl in the second innings at Manchester due to 2 days of rain and ICC still issues fines and take 10 WTC points of us for slow over rates. That makes a lot of sense.” – Khawaja Tweeted.

The ICC revealed in a Press release that Australia and England were fined 5 percent of their match fees with 10 points deducted. “Under the revised regulations, they were fined 5% of their match fee and One WTC point for every over short.”

England managed to level the series by 2-2 after losing the first 2 Tests. The hosts made a spectacular comeback in the 3rd Test at Leeds but Ben Stokes’ side could not land the Iconic Ashes trophy.

If we talk about the performance of Usman Khawaja, then he scored 496 runs including 1 Full century and 3 Half-centuries.
