Ashes 1st Test, Day 2 Stumps: Khwaja and Carey Put Australia Firmly on Top
The second day of the first Ashes 2023 test match began with England on top until the lunch session. The post-lunch session was also in England’s favour with Cameron Green’s wicket in the end, but it is Australia who are now ahead in this test match as they have had a fabulous last session of the day.

Usman Khwaja, the centurion, and Alex Carey have stitched together a brilliant 91-run partnership to take Australia’s score to 311/5 after two days of toiling hard on this batting belter. The visitors now trail the hosts by just 82 runs, as the Englishmen seem to be in trouble now.
A lot of overs were bowled by Moeen Ali today (29 overs), as there was no help for the fast bowlers. Ali was very expensive throughout the day on his test match comeback, giving away runs at an economy of 4.4 runs per over. He took two wickets in the day, and the wicket of Cameron Green was a dream ball.

From Australia’s perspective, this is a very good situation to be in after getting to bowl first on this road-like wicket. They just have 82 more runs to make, and after that, they can start taking the lead. Usman Khwaja and Alex Carey are looking in very good touch, and it would take a magical ball or a magical fielding effort to get these batters out.
Khwaja is currently batting at 126* off 279 balls, having smashed his 15th test hundred and first test hundred in England earlier in the day. Alex Carey has also played a smashing inning of 52 runs at a strike rate of 65. Travis Head also scored a brilliant fifty before holing one to Zak Crawley, and Cameron Green too looked settled before getting bowled by a peach from Moeen Ali.
The England bowlers have been made to toil hard for wickets by the Aussie batters, and they still have a lot of hard work to do tomorrow. Some early wickets will be the key for England on Day 3, otherwise this match will go away from them very quickly. Signing off from this hard-working day of test cricket, where we saw some traditional test cricket being played,
