Antim Panghal and Anshu Malik clinch silver at Budapest Wrestling Tournament
As far as wrestling in India is concerned future stars have come into action as Antim Panghal and Anshu Malik won silver medals in the Budapest Wrestling Tournament 2024. In this event, Malik defeated the reigning world champion QI Zhang of China in a very close 2-1 sets for a place in the final.
Before the semifinals, Malik also showed good form by defeating former world champion Anastasia Nichita from Moldova in the quarter-final. The game reached the end of the final and Malik was able to win the three sets with a score of 6-5.
While Panghal and Malik both fell short of gold in Budapest, the silver medals they won carry just as much significance. They benefited from the experience of the tournament in that they got to play with some players with international tournament experience.
The Budapest Wrestling Tournament was the last ranking series ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. These point rankings will determine stricter Olympic match seeding.
