Anahat Singh Falls To Top Seed In Final

India’s Anahat Singh’s dream run at the British Junior Open squash tournament came to an end after she lost to Egyptian Amina Orfi in the U-13 girls’ ultimate round of the tournament.

Amina Orfi, who is considered to be the next big thing in squash from Egypt, clinched the U-13 girl’s title with a 11-0 11-1 11-4 victory over the Indian. In the match, it was felt that the Egyptians had done her homework well against Anahat and she had answers to all the questions that the Indian had up her sleeve.

Amina, who was high on confidence after winning several domestic tournaments, did not allow the Indian any luxury as she raced away with the title in a quick time.

Anahat had shown a lot of promise as she made her way into the finals by defeating second seed player from Egypt, Janna Galal in the semi-final. The Indian sensation registered a 7-11, 11-7, 13-11, 5-11, 17-15 victory over the second seed to advance into the finals.

Earlier, in the boys U-19 semi-final held late Sunday night, another Indian Veer Chotrani, who was expected to perform well and find a place in the finals, lost to top seed Moustafa El Sirty. The Indian did show some hope of making it into the ultimate battle as he grabbed the opener, but thereafter, it was Moustafa all the way. The Egyptians did not allow the Indians to dominate any further and booked a place in the finals with a 7-11 11-2 11-6 11-8 victory.

Veer Chotrani had earlier defeated USA’s Thomas Rosini by a total score of 9/16 as he showed the door to the American 11-6, 19-17, 10-12, 9-11.

Other Indians who were participating in the competition were Yash Fadte (U-19), Neel Joshi (U-17), Yuvraj Wadhwani (U-15) and Darshil Parasrampuria (U-11). All these players bowed out after losing their quarterfinal matches.
