All the talent Imported in South Asian VALORANT Esports we must know in detail

Over the last couple of months, there has been an unprecedented growth in VALORANT Esports in South Asia. The region saw its best teams qualify for the recent APAC events and compete with the best in the region. These monumental achievements helped the growth of the game in the region.

Esports Update: Teams to watch out for this VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT)

The recent months saw more tournament organizers pour money into the region. The region also saw the entry of newer organization into the scene. Some of these organizations also imported talent from other regions around Asia. Let’s take a look at some of these organization and how it will impact the region going forward.

Coaching Staff

The biggest organizations in the region are all currently fielding foreign coaches. Last stage of the VCT saw Enigma Gaming bring in Lukas “yb” Gröning who had previously played in region in Counter-Strike Global Offensive. The team saw an instant uptick in their performances even though it failed to qualify for VCT APAC: S1 Playoffs.

The current split saw the continuation of this trend with Global Esports brining in Hong “Eraser” Chang-pyo and Velocity Gaming adding Andi “sleepy” Andana Bangsawan into their respective rosters. Much like Enigma Gaming, Global Esports also saw an instant uptick in their performance as they took home the Skyesports Grand Slam.

Although Velocity Gaming are yet to take to the server after the addition of sleepy. However, with the coaching pedigree of sleepy, it is expected that Velocity Gaming will hit the ground running. It is also worth mentioning that sleepy has been added to the roster as a consultant and not a coach.

Players

It is not just the addition of coaches and management staff that is shaping the region but also players. The recent month saw “Orangutan” add foreign players both into their male and female rosters. Their Game Changers roster made a deep run into the playoffs of the GC APAC: Open 3 on the back of these changes.

The male roster of Orangutan is set to compete in the Skyesports Champions Series this week and will have even higher expectations. The roster consists of a Korea, a Filipino, a Pakistani and two Indians. It is a conglomeration of Asia’s best to say the least.

The import of foreign players is rare in the country, however the import of regional talent from the sub-continent coming together isn’t unheard of. It is something that Engima Gaming from India and Khumbu Esports from Nepal have already been experimenting on since late 2021.

The Impact

The impact of these changes coming into the scene still remains unknown. The import of foreign coaches and analysts in the region has long been debated. The early results in this regard have been positive as mentioned earlier. The teams with foreign coaches tend to do better than the ones with regional staff. It is no hidden fact that there is a shortage of top-notch coaches and analysts in the region.

The import of foreign player on the other hand might be something more controversial. It is something that might sound lucrative by the looks of it but in turn it is something that hampers the development of local talent in the region.

Such experiments of using two imported players along with three regional talents have already been experimented in other region. Regions such as Japan and North America have already seen the import of Korean and European players respectively. It is something that has not gone down well in the majority of the cases. So, the development of teams such as “Orangutan” will be something worth keeping an eye on in the near future.
